Men on the Path will be starting one of the most impactual books that I have done: Calvary Road by Roy Hession
We have ordered copies for anyone who doesn’t have a copy yet. There is also a great study guide/work book which you will enjoy to augment Calvary Road book.
Join us for this life changing book on the TRUE message of the cross: brokenness & belovedness.
Our first meeting today was a review of the Preface & Introduction. You can review the questions and teaching points, and thought provoking teaching and discussion time. We wrestled with our hearts that are both broken and beloved.
We would LOVE your thoughts on the mystery of Scripture stating that our hearts are ‘wicked’ but as Christians, Jesus dwells within our hearts….

I’m so delighted to see you studying this book again. This was truly a transformational work for the Men of Influence. Keep on sharing – we appreciate it.
Hi GuysDrew introduced to a new study we will be doing. It is on the book, “The Calvary Road,” by Roy Hession. So, for the next several weeks Drew will take us through the chapters and give us a list of questions for discussion. If you’ve been missing Men of the Path lately, now is a great time to come back. Last week, we covered the intro, written by Norman Grubb (any relation, Woody?) and Roy Hession’s preface. These sections talked about revival, not just any revival, but a revival in YOUR life. They covered Ezekiel 37:10, Isaiah 61:1, 1Corinthians 3:16, Ephesians 3:17 & Psalm 5:4. Please take a few moments and read those passages. It comes down to a few key points that many church and men’s groups do not cover these days (because it isn’t a soft, fluffy subject):
There is a spiritual battle going on and the Holy Spirit resides in our hearts to help fight that battle (do you believe in Satan, and that Satan is in a spiritual battle with the Holy Spirit for your soul? If so, how do you think it is going?).
God cannot dwell where evil resides (ask yourself if there is evil in your heart; it will help you answer the previous questions).
We sin constantly; we must confess our sin, and with humility, live in a continual sense of brokenness.
It comes down to something we talk about all of the time – relationship. If we stay in relationship with God we can win this battle. Someone in our group said a relationship is always in motion; it never stays the same. So, in our relationship with God, who is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, it is we who must change. It all comes down to the heart. Is your heart open to God and His word?
See you Wednesday morning at the clubhouse…Bring your thinking cap.
Heart appears 833 times in the KJV. Meaning important word, idea.
And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually. Gen 6:5 First use of the word heart in OT. Defined as inner man, mind, will, heart, understanding.
Blessed [are] the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Matt 5:8 First use of the word in the NT. Defined as the centre of all physical and spiritual life. This definition might be getting at what you are looking for. It seems to say 2 lives, 1 physical, 1 spiritual. Therefore 2 hearts, I of flesh, 1 of spirit.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Rom 10:9 – the spiritual journey begins in the (spiritual) heart
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 1 Cor 2:9 I love it when our father talks like this. I like you and most everyone have had some wonderfully profound moments in my life when I have felt very near to God and yet this verse says I have no idea how much God loves me and has prepared for me. Wow!
For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb 4:12 You say what is the difference between the heart of flesh and the heart of the spirit – the intent!
A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. Matt 12:35 So which is it ? You are a good man Drew for out of your heart I see good things starting with your love for God and Brook and your children…your brothers and me! Thanks for remembering me enough to send this to me!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Cor 5:17
